• Economic Base

Depoe Bay, like many of the towns North and South of it, relies in large part on tourism to keep it's economy strong. Fishing is the mainstay industry in the small town, with the bay providing numerous jobs for locals via commercial and charter fishing outfits. In 2000 the median house value was $182,000, with median rent at about $500.00

• Climate

The climate in Depoe Bay can offer some of the areas most spectacular natural weather events. People from all over stop in downtown Depoe Bay to watch, at high tide when the waves come pouring over the cliff spilling directly onto Hwy 101, the curb parked cars, and of course the eager spectators. During the summer the sun warms the bustling downtown area, while the clear blue skies offer a view of the Pacific that seems limitless.

• Population

As of 2000, there were nearly 1,200 stated residents of Depoe Bay. As with most areas near it the summer months bring an influx of temporary residents to the area: some 2nd home owners and some tourists.

• Location

Depoe Bay is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Portland, and about an hour from Salem. The town is bordered on the West by the Pacific Ocean, on the East by the Coast mountain range, with Lincoln City to the North, and the larger Newport to the South.
