Newport

• Economic Base

Newport, the Lincoln County seat, is the largest town in Lincoln County. As such, while tourism is certainly a large part of it's economy, there are many established industries and businesses in the area offering an abundance of jobs to the local population of nearly 10,000 (2000).

• Climate

Newport experiences many of the extremes through the seasons that it's neighboring towns experience - ferocious and amazing Winter storms, beautifully crisp and clear blue Summer days, vivid Autumn colors, and the brilliance of Spring. Winds tend to not be as high in the Newport area as they do in and around Lincoln City, though being situated on the coast lends itself to some windy days nonetheless

• Population

As of the 2000 census, population figures were reaching 10,000 - this number is composed mostly of full time, year round residents, as Newport's economic base is large and strong enough to support a larger steady population like this.

• Location

Newport is located on the coast, with the Pacific Ocean to the West, the Coast mountain range to the East, Depoe Bay to the North, and Waldport to the South. From Portland, the drive is about 3 hours, and to Corvallis it takes about an hour-and-a-half.
